Chevalier de Lascombes Red Bordeaux Blend Margaux 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

*Chevalier de Lascombes*, the second wine of cht. Lascombes, enjoys many of the same attributes of the famous Grand Cru Classe, but is more fruit forward and supple and will be delicious for at least 5 to 10 years. At less than half the price of the Grand Cru it is an outstanding bargain and is a *"must buy".**We will notify you on arrival Summer 2014*

Deep ruby with paler rims. Medium and developing nose of black cherry and liquorice. Medium in acidity, tannin and palate intensity, exhibiting blackberry, liquorice and smoke flavors. Medium+ body and medium length. Acceptable quality, suitable to drink now but can develop further.

This is the 2nd wine of the premier cuvee Chateau de Lascombes. Tried this side by side with the Chateau de Lascombes '04 with friends. This one seemed more rounded out, which is no surprise since it is 2 yrs older. It had tastes of sour cherries, leather, but kind of heavy on the oak. Also, put side by side with its premier cuvee, this finished a lot less shorter than its 'daddy'. This is supposed to have more merlot than the daddy, but this somehow tasted less fruity to me.... hmmm. Really liked it though, and it was fun putting them both side by side.

Love its well-balanced structure with black fruits and oak, with a little hint of spice and espresso for after-taste. Fine tannin and smooth texture. I think it has almost reached its peak. Time to serve now.

55% cabernet sauvignon 35% merlot 5% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. Lascombes second wine. Dark ruby color through to the rim. The petit verdot shows though with some green edges on the nose but is buoyed by red fruit and a touch of camphor and leather. Shows some austerity on the palate but with bright fruit as well. Some evident oak in this modern Margaux. The finish is dry with some tannic backbone. Give this a year or two in bottle to integrate and become more approachable. Enjoy 2014-2019. Alex Lallos.

Inky glass-staining purple. Chocolatey torrefaction and herbs currently dominate black fruit aromas on the nose. Much more fruit-dominated in the mouth: pure rich almost decadently ripe blackberry and cassis flavors are plush and creamy but possess excellent grip and precision. Very polished tannins give the luscious finish an ultrasmooth texture. Maybe a bit more New than Old World but this version of Lascombes is much more reminiscent of classic Bordeaux than other recent vintages and appears to be the best vintage here in years.
