Chatom Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Calaveras County 2006

This is pretty intense on the nose with notes of roast beef, sweet oak spice, pencil lead, and dried grass all floating over a nice base of slightly roasted black currant/black raspberry fruit. The oak gives it a bit too much aromatic sweetness but it's very nice with an underlying freshness. That freshness is there on the entry which is nicely red fruited, bright and smooth with fairly abundant, yet soft tannins. The mid-palate gains a bit of mintiness with more pruny fruit appearing that gives way to more oaken spice and a bit of chocolate on the finish that shows some of the 14.8% alcohol this packs along with a little bitterness. It's a biggish wine with a lot going, ready to drink and delivers intense flavors and aromas but is a bit monolithic and lacks a bit of varietal character. 86pts

Rich cedar wood with cherries and blackberries. Traces of melon, avocado, parsley, and vanilla. The mouth is elegant; good tannins and a nice round body.

Teriyaki and cherries on the nose. Nice big wine, with good spice, chocolate, black cherries, plums and a long spicy finish.

Nice nose of dark cherries, chocolate, and oak. Really well balanced complex fruit bomb with black cherries, coca, oak, and a slight medicinal eucalyptus finish. Yum.

A soft note of blackberry cobbler on the nose, fruit and cream and baking supplies. In the mouth it's round & ripe, with some other leafy, black-and-blue fruits making an appearance before a slip of dark chocolate arrives for the finish.

medium dark ruby, medium to full body, intensely aromatic and flavored. balanced acidity, silky tannins. quite a bit of alcohol and sweet oak overwhelm the rich dark berry fruit, but some tobacco leaf and cedar round it out. keep it aging.

    Fragrant blackberries baked fruit with vanilla and a hint of cinnamon are inviting to the nose. Your introduction is followed by sweet ripe black fruit light licorice tobacco with subtle spice and oak which enhance your palate. The tannins and ripe fruit will allow this well balanced Cabernet Sauvignon to age for several years....enjoy.

    In the warm days and cool nights of the Sierra Foothills, these Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were able to attain perfect ripeness. The wine shows aromatic fruit and black pepper, with undertones of coffee and bittersweet chocolate.
