Chateauneuf du Pape Domaine les Cailloux Brunel 95rr 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"A brilliant Châteauneuf-du-Pape that should not be missed is the 2010 Les Cailloux Châteauneuf-du-Pape! A blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, and 10% Syrah (with only the Syrah being aged in smaller, new barrels), it has put on weight since I tasted it last year and offers up a spectacular array of spiced red fruits, garrigue, small flowers, licorice, and toast on the nose to go with a full-bodied, layered and perfectly proportioned mouth feel. This complex, seamless, and rich Châteauneuf-du-Pape will age effortlessly for two decades...95" RR 10/12 "The Les Cailloux 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape looks to be superb as well. Yields were low because over 30% of Brunel’s Grenache was lost in the poor flowering (the average was 20 hectoliters per hectare). The wine reveals a dense ruby/purple color (more saturated than the 2009), slightly more definition, structure and acidity, and precise blueberry and black raspberry fruit notes intermixed with licorice and a floral component. Full-bodied and deep, it will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and should evolve effortlessly for 15-20 years...92-95" WA 10/11 "Deep ruby. Assertive, exotically perfumed scents of black raspberry, wild herbs and incense, with a note of lavender in the background. Sweet, ripe, silky and expansive, with a nervy spine of acidity providing focus to the sweet red and dark berry preserve and floral flavors. The seamless finish shows strong spice and floral character...92-94" IWC 02/12
