Chateauneuf du Pape Domaine Barville 2012

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

Bright ruby. A flamboyantly aromatic bouquet evokes blackberry, blueberry, licorice, incense and lavender. Deep, sweet and velvety, offering sappy black and blue fruit flavors, a touch of candied flowers and building spiciness. Finishes with good vivacity and strong, spice-driven persistence.

Looking even better, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape had an added layer of richness and depth over the 2011. Offering up ripe notes of blackberry, underbrush, pepper and new leather, it is fresh and lively on the palate, with medium-bodied richness and fantastic purity of fruit. It should be relatively approachable on release and drink well for 7–8 years, if not a decade. Drink 2015–2021.

Dark fig, blackberry coulis and plum skin notes meld together, along with pastis, licorice snap and ganache accents. The structure is polished in feel but maintains a grippy edge through the finish. Best from 2015 through 2026.

Bright ruby. A seductively perfumed bouquet evokes dark berry liqueur, incense and candied lavender. Fleshy and open-knit, offering sappy blackberry and cherry flavors and a hint of peppery spices. The floral note comes back on the smooth, gently tannic finish, which shows very good energy and a slight jamminess.

The superb 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Domaine Barville (75% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Mourvedre) tips the scales at 15% natural alcohol. The wine exhibits a deep ruby/purple color, good acidity (a hallmark of this vintage), full body, massive fruit, lots of precision and freshness, and a long finish with moderate tannin. Cellar it for 3andndash;4 years and drink it over the following 20andndash;25.

The outstanding 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Domaine Barville exhibits a dense ruby/purple color, good acidity and lots of roasted meat, bouquet garni, cassis and kirsch characteristics. Fleshy, full and classic, it can be enjoyed over the next 12andndash;15 years.
