Châteauneuf du Pape Cristia Domaine de Cristia 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

91 points Wine Spectator: Ripe and seamless, with a gorgeous mouthfeel to the raspberry, mulled spice, crushed currant and melted licorice notes. Long and fleshy, with a buried minerality extending the finish. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2025. (9/30/09)

RED WINES The grapes are selected in the vineyard, then destemmed before being put into vats. Three weeks of fermentation and maceration in concrete vats follow, with the use of indigenous yeasts. Temperatures are kept low in order to produce aromatic wines. We do not insist on any massive extraction, but prefer the ‘matiere’ to express itself. (Due to the way we work in the vineyards, the grapes possess enough concentration). The pressed juice and free-run juice are blended together according to the vintage. Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are aged in concrete vats and barrels for 18 months. Côtes-du-Rhône and Vin de Pays are aged only in concrete vats for 8 to 12 months. WHITE WINES The grapes are selected and pressed very quickly. They are fermented and aged for 8 months in a combination of barrels and stainless steel vats. Read less

Tested from a preservation machine. Balanced nose of perfumed fruit with tart and herbal notes. Clean, elegant, balanced, well-integrated deep somewhat smoky fruit (strawberry, black cherry, raspberry, blackberry, detectable in varying proportions) that leans to the savory and is joined by slightly bitter nut oil, licorice, stone, thyme, and tarragon. On the finish everything from the palate fades together in good balance, very nice. Dry. Body medium plus, acid medium, tannin medium plus. I like these kind of wines, and they hold up vacu-corked in the fridge for several days, often peaking on day 3.

Saturated ruby. Room-filling bouquet of dark berry compote, pipe tobacco, printer's ink and licorice. Broad and impressively deep, with liqueur-like blackberry and boysenberry flavors, velvety texture and slow-building tannins. Seems to be as much a ... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. Even more profound than the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Renaissance, is the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes, made from 100% Grenache vines from sandy clay soils (the vines are between 70 and 85 years of age). This wine is aged completely in old... Robert Parker. A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2007 Cristia, Domaine de Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes 1500ml

Absolutely brilliant and my favorite wine of the trio of 2007s is their 100% Grenache cuvee, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes. Aged completely in small, older oak barrels, this wine displays lavish quantities of blackberry and black cherr... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. The dense ruby/purple 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape (90% Grenache and 10% Syrah) is very sexy and rich, with a beautiful nose of blueberry, blackberry, charcoal, and tapenade. Fabulously concentrated, with silky tannins and a layered, rich mouthfeel, this... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. Frische Zitrusaromen mit etwas weissem Pfirsich. Lebendiger Auftakt mit vollem Gaumen und langem, elegantem Abgang.
