Chateau Vieux Chateau Landon Medoc 2009

Member Review by brmaso:

This wine shows the typicity of a quality 2009 Bordeaux (unctuous, thick mouth coating texture with low acidity and a hedonistic style) with a value wine price. A concentrated, medium bodied effort, this wine exhibits a primary dark wild cherry and grapey fruit core intertwined with vanillin chocolate notes. Under this core is a smokey, dill grassy like quality on top of a slight underbrush aroma that will cover up the slight minerality for most people. This wine is concentrated phenolically, but the tannin is so velvety and sweet that it deceives the palate by hiding the structure. This, mixed with fine balance and high (but not exuberant) glycerin/alcohol levels..the 30% Merlot in this wine achieved atypically high alcohol potential, as did most 2009 Merlot from Bordeaux..will let this wine evolve over the next several years. 2009, in general, is such a unique vintage that you would have to go back to 1982 (then 61, then 47, then 28, then 1900!!) Bordeaux to find something of a similar style.
