Château Troplong Mondot Red Bordeaux Blend St. Émilion Grand Cru 1998

Winemaker's Notes:

Château Troplong Mondot, perched on a limestone plateau commanding breathtaking views of around 30 hectares sweeping towards the Dordogne, has become one of Saint-Émilion's leading lights since Christine Valette took over. Christine has employed Michel Rolland, the most famous Bordeaux consultant winemaker and driving force behind the dramatic improvement in a number of Saint-Émilion châteaux in the 1980s. And together they have masterminded Troplong Mondot's elevation to Premier Grand Cru Classe status in the Saint-Émilion classification system review of 2006. Great value Saint-Émilion from the 1998 Bordeaux vintage. Reviews.. ""Intense aromas of ripe berries, tobacco and toasted oak with mineral. Full-bodied, with well-integrated, superfine tannins and a long, long finish. Extremely sexy, yet elegant."" Wine Spectator (Jan 2001)

Troplong-Mondot, Château:
Château Troplong Mondot is grown on extensive vineyards rich in limestone clay soils. Powerful, well-structured with pronounced complex tannins, its deep aromas of truffles and blackberries develop over time.

A fabulous effort, this sleeper of the vintage may turn out to be the finest Troplong-Mondot since the 1990. The black/purple-colored 1998 exhibits floral, blueberry, blackberry, licorice, vanillin, and truffle-like aromas (or is it charcoal/graphite... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
