Chateau Suduiraut Premier Grand Cru Classe Blanc Liquoreux Sauternes Bordeaux 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

This is the great 1st label wine of the prestigious Château de Suduiraut. The estate covers 90ha with a low yield of 17hl/ha and is the next vineyard to the north of Yquem. Château Suduiraut is a beautiful property situated in the commune of Preignac with magnificent gardens designed by Le Notre who was also responsible for those at Versailles. Sauternes is an appellation which applies to 5 villages to the South of the Ciron. The Ciron is a tributary of the Garonne and is responsible for the misty autumn conditions that give rise to noble rot, making it possible to make deliciously sweet wines from the concentrated sweet juice of the dehydrated grapes. Vintage: 1998 Grapes: 90% Semillion, 10% Sauvignon Blanc. Soil: Gravelly soil with clay and sand. Vinification: Selective hand harvest by successive pickings is followed by 2-3 weeks of fermentation in temperature controlled vats. The wine is then aged for 12 months in 2 year old oak barrels with racking every 3 months. Colour: Gold Taste: A beautifully balanced sweet wine suitable for long ageing. It has attractive fruit and a lively freshness. Serve: Chilled with Foie Gras and blue cheese.

Vintage: 1989 11/14/2013

Vibrant aromas of fruit salad and honey. Moderately viscous and bright in the mouth; not nearly as powerful as the 90. Nicely balanced even if there still a bit of acidity to be absorbed. Intensely flavored and youthful. Stephen Tanzers IWC.
