Editorial Reviews for Chateau Ste. Michelle Eroica Riesling
16.66 grams per liter residual sugar Big lime and lemon aromas greet the nose layered over a nice mineral base note with a hint of steel and some heathery floral highlights. Bright juicy acids lend an almost firm feel to this on the palate which shows that hint of sweet roundness balance with the steely mineral acids. Clear and fresh on the palate with lots of mineral character balanced by slightly under-ripe peach fruit and a hint of mango that emerges on the moderately long finish. 89pts
Sweet, candied lime peel, apricot and apple aromas are layered on the nose. Noticeably sweet on entry, this has fine acid balance lending a transparent feel in the mouth and taking the edge right off the sweetness. The result is a medium-bodied, lime-based mid-palate with a touch of herb and apple peel complexity that extends over the moderately long finish. Nicely balanced and fresh if a touch simple, this checks all the boxes. 85pts
Rather white peachy on the nose with underlying notes of fresh apple sauce and sweet sage leaf. Moderately sweet on entry with a lot of acidity making this vibrant and zesty on the palate. The fruit has a slightly tropical, exotic edge to it, showing off papaya and guava notes with a touch of ruby red grapefruit underneath. The grapefruit and some lime pith and mineral notes take over on the long finish that ends with a touch of mouth-cleansing astringency. This really is quite attractive, it just lacks a bit of life in the mouth. 88pts
This smells downright seductive with nuanced notes of crisp baking apple, mineral, almost a touch of spicy cinnamon, with notes of lemon verbena and bay leaf. While not totally dry this is blessed with very assertive acids that help reinforce the wonderful deep and fresh core of wild apple fruit with deep mineral cut and lovely precision that extends over the long finish. This is just so zesty and pure with a wonderful vibrancy that makes is delicious on it’s own and a great match for lightly salty/fatty bites like prosciutto or mature washed rind cheeses. 91pts

Really nice riesling from Chateau Ste. Michelle. Just a hint of petrol on the nose with some lemon zest. On the palate there's some nice ripe apricot, honeysuckle, tangerine and a bit of flint. This has a nice bit of acidity along with a touch of stone that balances well with the medium to low alcohol (12%).

It seems like every vintage is another winner for this extraordinary Riesling collaboration between famed Mosel Valley vintner Dr. Ernst Loosen and Chateau Ste. Michelle. Sourced primarily from three of Ste. Michelle's best vineyards. One in the Columbia Valley and two in the slightly cooler Yakima Valley. The wine reaches a richness level that is on par with the finest Spatlese from the Mosel Valley. This Riesling is bright, rich, lush and compelling. The sweetness is finely balanced with the bright acidity and the flavors are all lime peel, white peach, grapefruit and stoney slate. WIne & Spirits Magazine scored this 2013 93 points saying "Eroica in 2013 is deliciously precise, marked by a green apple freshness that isn't just a flavor; it's a feeling. Apple informs its lifted scent, its purity of flavor and also its driving energetic movement. The textures draw to a close through the lens of citrus, lemon and lemon pith, a drawstring of focus and detail. A great aperitif, it would pair beautifully with lemon risotto as well."
And last of the whites and one of the top Rieslings I was able to taste from Washington, the 2012 Riesling Eroica offers up racy, well-defined aromas and flavors of star fruit, citrus rind, green apple and edgy minerality on the nose. Medium-bodied, off-dry through the mid-palate and clean and fresh on the finish, it's a delicious, textbook Riesling that would be a prefect meal starter or to pair up with spicier fare. Drink bottles over the coming handful of years. Drink now-2015.
Complex and compelling, this has a luscious mix of fruits that run the Riesling gamut. It's creamy and textural, fresh and primary, with exceptional aging potential and fine, juicy, natural acidity.
Continuing a long-running streak of excellence, the latest vintage of Eroica blends fruit from vineyards in the Lake Chelan, Yakima Valley, Royal Slope and Horse Heaven Hills regions. It’s a rich mix of peach and papaya, creamy and slightly sweet (16.6 g/L). The citrusy acids keep a fine edge on the lush flavors.
Light and open-textured, with a touch of sweetness to the apple and green olive flavors, weaving a floral note into the deftly balanced finish. Drink now through 2016.
Our new Eroica Gold Riesling offers the best of both worlds, the bright natural acidity of our original Eroica with concentrated, ripe fruit flavors and a touch of sweetness.
