Winemaker's Notes:

This Eroica shows the crisp acidity of the cooler 2008 vintage. The wine exudes mandarin orange and sweet lime aromas and flavors with subtle mineral notes. The mouth-watering acidity is beautifully balanced by flavorful Washington Riesling fruit.   You’d be hard-pressed (just like the grapes!) to find a more influential winery than Chateau Ste. Michelle. It’s Washington State’s oldest winery, getting its start when Pommerelle Wine Company and the National Wine Company merged in 1954 to form the American Wine Growers. From there, they created a premium line of vinifera wines in 1967 called “Ste. Michelle Vintners,” under the direction of Andre Tchelistcheff, which is where Ste. Michelle really took off. Their first vines were planted at the now-legendary Cold Creek Vineyard in Eastern Washington in 1972. When a French style chateau was built in Woodinville by Ste. Michelle Vintners in 1976, the winery finally became known as Chateau Ste. Michelle. The terroir is very important for Chateau Ste. Michelle. Columbia Valley isn’t just important because they have over 3,500 acres under vine there - they love the land, and they even helped to make it recognized as an American Viticulture Area (AVA). Columbia Valley produces more Riesling than any other American region, and Chateau Ste. Michelle leads that charge as the leading North American Riesling producer. Chateau Ste. Michelle is known for its award-winning Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, but it didn’t become great magically. They actually have two separate wineries, one for making whites, and another for making reds, which allows them to have complete control of the process. In fact, they’re so serious about the difference that they have dedicated winemakers for each color. While Bob Bertheau is their head winemaker who oversees all wine, Joshua Maloney oversees only the red wines, and Wendy Stuckey cares for the white. This allows Chateau Ste. Michelle to consistently create world-class wines that never fail to surprise judges. Read less

This smells downright seductive with nuanced notes of crisp baking apple, mineral, almost a touch of spicy cinnamon, with notes of lemon verbena and bay leaf. While not totally dry this is blessed with very assertive acids that help reinforce the wonderful deep and fresh core of wild apple fruit with deep mineral cut and lovely precision that extends over the long finish. This is just so zesty and pure with a wonderful vibrancy that makes is delicious on it’s own and a great match for lightly salty/fatty bites like prosciutto or mature washed rind cheeses. 91pts

My husband and I really love this wine, and he's not a wine guy! Perfect price and fantastic flavors. Not too alcoholic and strong sweetness and fruit flavors. Can't go wrong with this one!

Tasted at Chateau Ste. MIchelle. Very nice, off-dry, crisp Riesling with good acidity and a 11.5% alcohol level. Aromas of honey and peaches. The taste is full of lime with subtle mineral notes.

Love this. Extremely robust and full tasting, unlike many dry Rieslings I've tasted recently. Firm acidity but it doesn't make the wine taste thin. Fruity without being sweet, lots of tropical fruit and peach initially then lime/lime zest for a little kick in the finish. Would be interested to see how it tastes in a couple of years but I doubt I'll be able to resist that long!

A reliably good riesling, do not drink as much since discovering some great Finger Lakes rieslings.

The accolades keep pouring in for the latest release of Eroica. “The 10th vintage of Eroica may be the best ever.” says Wine Enthusiast Magazine. “...has the balance to evolve for several years and should drink well for a decade.” says The Wine Advocate. And Wine & Spirits Magazine weighed in on this gorgeous Columbia Valley Riesling with a 94 point score saying “It seems as if Eroica gets more precise with each vintage. The joint venture between Ernst Loosen and Chateau Ste. Michelle produced a 2008 that’s simply brilliant, its scents of Thai pineapple and passion fruit leading to lime-like flavors hurried along by rippling acidity. There’s tension between the brisk and creamy textures, a contrast of generosity and mineral edges. Pair it with wienerschnitzel." Limited!

The white wines begin with the 2008 Eroica Riesling, a collaboration between Germany's Ernst Loosen and Chateau Ste. Michelle. The grapes are sourced from a number of sites and several AVAs. Because of the winery's vast holdings, this superb Riesling can be made in quantity (27,000 cases) while maintaining exceptional quality. Light straw-colored, it has a lovely, captivating perfume of acacia, honey, mineral, melon, and tropical aromas. Crisp, light- bodied (11.5% alcohol), concentrated, and vibrant, this just off-dry (1.77% RS), Kabinett-styled Riesling has the balance to evolve for several years and should drink well for a decade. Very pale straw-yellow. Subtle aromas of citrus peel, ginger, quinine, linden tea and fresh herbs. Intense stone fruit flavors are bright and tactile, with a slight impression of residual sweetness leavened by vibrant acids. Tasty, complex riesling with very good lift on the firm aftertaste.

In collaboration with the famed Dr. Loosen estate of Germany's Mosel region, Ch. Ste Michelle has created this wine in the image of the best Old World Rieslings. This has bright raciness, seamlessly woven in with ripe peach flavors and citrusy accents.
