Lots of oak on the nose--I have the feeling that this is one of those California Chardonnays that everybody now loves to hate--some hints of pineapple. Initial palate sensation is nice, refreshing a bit of acid, but it doesn't take long before the vanilla/caramel from the oak takes over. This wine will go better with tonight's grilled chicken that it does by itself. US$13.99 at Costco.
External Reviews for Chateau St Jean Chardonnay Robert Young
Chateau St. Jean is well known for it's single vineyard wines. Located in the heart of Sonoma, Chateau St. Jean has made wine for over 30 years and was the first Sonoma Winery to be awarded winery of the year by Wine Spectator, a high honor indeed.
Fresh aromas of yellow fruit, citrus zest and hints of honeysuckle and smoke introduce the nose of this single vineyard Chardonnay. A medium-bodied entry fills the mouth with notes of pear, citrus, honey and nutmeg. Balanced acidity and lingering notes of Meyer lemon make this an excellent food wine.
