Château St. Jean Chardonnay Robert Young 2003
Tropical notes and creamy vanilla aromas begin the nose of this Chardonnay. Atypical for a Carneros region wine, this Chardonnay begins with a big, rich tropical mouth of pineapple, mango and poached pears. A medium bodied and well structured wine, these tropical flavors continue and surround layers of vanilla bean, creamy buttery notes and smoke attributed to the well-integrated oak selection.
[$40] Unfortunately, no detailed notes, but a very nice wine. citrus, melon, peaches, mild oak. With some pleasant notes and balance, this was proabably the best white I tasted on the trip. It seemd that we were bombarded with mediocore in-your-face Chardonnays at every stop; this served as a reminder than California produces sublte whites that deserve attention. Should have purchased a couple of bottles.
[Saratoga] Always like CJS Chard. Butterscotch, tropical fruit, lively. Would drink again.
Amazing chardonnay. Much more flavor (caramel?) than their other chards. Good as a drinking wine.
Very nice effort. Vanilla, buttery, decent finish. Can probably cellar this fora few more years.
