Food Pairings for Chateau St. Jean Chardonnay Reserve Robert Young
This is one of my favorite chardonnays. Buttery yet citrus comes through along with a little oak. Overall well balanced which seems to be hard to find in chardonnays lately.

[Saratoga] Always like CJS Chard. Butterscotch, tropical fruit, lively. Would drink again.
[$40] Unfortunately, no detailed notes, but a very nice wine. citrus, melon, peaches, mild oak. With some pleasant notes and balance, this was proabably the best white I tasted on the trip. It seemd that we were bombarded with mediocore in-your-face Chardonnays at every stop; this served as a reminder than California produces sublte whites that deserve attention. Should have purchased a couple of bottles.
Amazing chardonnay. Much more flavor (caramel?) than their other chards. Good as a drinking wine.

Chateau St. Jean is well known for it's single vineyard wines. Located in the heart of Sonoma, Chateau St. Jean has made wine for over 30 years and was the first Sonoma Winery to be awarded winery of the year by Wine Spectator, a high honor indeed.
Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 94The winery's reserve Chard has consistently been the best among their five Chards. The '05 is a dramatic wine, although oak-o-phobes might find it toothpicky. It is smoky and buttery and caramelly, but a year or so should knit that together with the ripe tropical fruits and make the wine seamlessly complex.Wine Spectator ReviewRated 92Honey, fig, butterscotch and melon get a nice smoky, toasty oak edge. Holds onto a tight core of smoky, fruity flavors that give this an exotic yet elegant mouthfeel. Drink now through 2011. Wine Advocate ReviewRated 90Offering loads of tangerine oil, lemon blossom, pineapple, and brioche characteristics. A full-bodied, dense, fruit-laden effort that will provide pleasure over the next 3-4 years.Wine Tasting NotesThis medium-bodied Reserve Chardonnay opens with pleasing aromas of Bosc pear, lemon candy and nutmeg. Unctuous notes of creamy lemon bar and kiwi fruit are backed by subtle hints hazelnut, baking spice and mineral characters. The well-balanced acidity and complexity of flavors lead to a lengthy lemon oil finish.
