Chateau St. Jean Chardonnay Hrzn 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Beautiful floral aromas of Plumeria and honeysuckle bring a tropical feel to the nose of this Chardonnay. A rich, buttery entry layered with flavors of orange zest, Asian pears and Golden Delicious apples surrounds a subtle, smoky backnote throughout a well-balanced finish.

Chatea St. Jean’s life started in 1920, when it was built as a summer home for Ernest and Maude Goff. It is located in Sugarloaf Ridge in the Sonoma Valley near the legendary Kenwood, California. While the 250 acres of land were originally planted with white grapes, Prohibition encouraged the planting of prunes and walnuts instead. When Chateau St. Jean was founded in 1973, the chateau was restored and opened to the public in honor of the Goff family. As the company says, “only the finest” from their wines, and they delivered on that promise in quick time. In 1999, Chateau St. Jean’s 1996 Cinq Cépages Cabernet Sauvignon won “Wine of the Year,” making the chateau the first Sonoma winery to receive this award. Chateau St. Jean was one of the pioneers in vineyard designation, stressing the importance of a grape’s origin. They didn’t just talk the talk - they took grapes from successful vineyards and made individually labeled Chardonnays, Pinot Noir, and Fumé Blanc. With the hard work and dedication of Margo Van Staaveren, the winemaker for Chateau St. Jean, the winery is able to make high quality wines with a persistent signature flavor profile across different vintages. My rating 86: Body has noticeable Glycerin what gives it the smooth mouth feel. It is of the dry fruity kind. On the nose it comes up short nothing long or appealing. The other ratings mention Mango taste, and other wild stipulation o tastes that I cannot follow. This all BS to the extreme! Just take it as it is a simple full bodied Chardonnay that white wine lovers will enjoy.

A wine with intense fruit flavors of ripe apple, pear and citrus. Partial barrel fermentation and aging on the yeast lees impart richness and complexity with a subtle blend of vanilla bean and hazelnut flavors.

Very similar to the prior vintage, this popular medium-bodied Chardonnay opens with pleasing stone fruit, vanilla and floral spice aromas. On the palate, the wine is well-structured and perfectly-balanced.

You'll find some tasty apricots, peach and vanilla-oak flavors in this soft, creamy wine. It's a nice California Chardonnay, slightly sweet in the finish, and a great accompaniment to salmon or pork.

Rich and intricate, a Chard that satisfies with its array of white peach, pineapple, mango, buttercream and spice flavors. Finishes with a slightly sweet, vanilla ice cream flavor.

Pale, bright yellow. Leesy aromas of peach, spicy oak and roasted nuts. Juicy, clean and fruit-driven, with a ripe peach flavor firmed by harmonious acidity. Another fruit-driven Chateau St. Jean wine with little pretension of profundity but plenty of early appeal.

A real classic. A wonderful butter bouquet, built on classic dry peach, caramel and vanillins. Long, round balanced finish. Buy this wine and discover why insiders consider St. Jean one of the Top 10 values in Chardonnay.

Lots of oak here, with toast, butter and caramelly vanilla riding over underlying peach and tropical fruit flavors. The texture is creamy smooth and rich. Nice Chardonnay at a decent price.
