Chatea St. Jean’s life started in 1920, when it was built as a summer home for Ernest and Maude Goff. It is located in Sugarloaf Ridge in the Sonoma Valley near the legendary Kenwood, California. While the 250 acres of land were originally planted with white grapes, Prohibition encouraged the planting of prunes and walnuts instead. When Chateau St. Jean was founded in 1973, the chateau was restored and opened to the public in honor of the Goff family. As the company says, “only the finest” from their wines, and they delivered on that promise in quick time. In 1999, Chateau St. Jean’s 1996 Cinq Cépages Cabernet Sauvignon won “Wine of the Year,” making the chateau the first Sonoma winery to receive this award. Chateau St. Jean was one of the pioneers in vineyard designation, stressing the importance of a grape’s origin. They didn’t just talk the talk - they took grapes from successful vineyards and made individually labeled Chardonnays, Pinot Noir, and Fumé Blanc. With the hard work and dedication of Margo Van Staaveren, the winemaker for Chateau St. Jean, the winery is able to make high quality wines with a persistent signature flavor profile across different vintages. A nice smooth wine, although slightly acidic. I got it from a small-town supermarket on sale. Not bad for $10, but I don't think I would pay the $16.99 shelf price for it. This wine is refreshing while sitting on the back deck and watching the sun set over the lake.

My rating 86: Body has noticeable Glycerin what gives it the smooth mouth feel. It is of the dry fruity kind. On the nose it comes up short nothing long or appealing. The other ratings mention Mango taste, and other wild stipulation o tastes that I cannot follow. This all BS to the extreme! Just take it as it is a simple full bodied Chardonnay that white wine lovers will enjoy.

Very buttery! High acidity, perfect with lobster+melted butter. However, it's not too flavorful/dense. Best drank with a meal.

Oaky, slightly buttery Chard. A touch of pineapple on the nose and palate. Not bad, but not much going on, either--just a regular Chardonnay.

With pleasing aromas of pear, mango and clove with a hint of vanilla mingle on the nose, this Chardonnay has well-balanced acidity that wraps around a luscious core of pineapple, lemon and melon flavors that creates a creamy palate and a refreshing finish.

This classic Sonoma County Chardonnay displays bright aromas of lemon cream, mango and notes of toasted hazelnut. This wine has a subtle elegance with a lingering finish.

Pale, bright yellow. Leesy aromas of peach, spicy oak and roasted nuts. Juicy, clean and fruit-driven, with a ripe peach flavor firmed by harmonious acidity. Another fruit-driven Chateau St. Jean wine with little pretension of profundity but plenty of early appeal.

A real classic. A wonderful butter bouquet, built on classic dry peach, caramel and vanillins. Long, round balanced finish. Buy this wine and discover why insiders consider St. Jean one of the Top 10 values in Chardonnay.

Rich and intricate, a Chard that satisfies with its array of white peach, pineapple, mango, buttercream and spice flavors. Finishes with a slightly sweet, vanilla ice cream flavor.

You'll find some tasty apricots, peach and vanilla-oak flavors in this soft, creamy wine. It's a nice California Chardonnay, slightly sweet in the finish, and a great accompaniment to salmon or pork.
