A super oaky nose. Oak dominates in the mouth, and guess what, the finish is full of oak. I believe there's some fruit there, somewhere, but come on, it was like sucking a cricket bat. Spicy (oaky!) finish.

I rate this Chateau St. Jean Chardonnay only a tad behind the outstanding 2006 Chardonnay from the Robert Young Estate Winery itself,and since the price of the Chateau St. Jean version is about half as much, it is a relative bargain. Quite a different style than the Robert Young Estate Winery bottling - a little less fruit-driven, a little spicier and toastier, and with a livelier, higher-acid feel to it. Excellent, rich, complex nose of ripe peach fruit and a heavy dose of nutmeg/cloves spices and butterscotch. Ripe, full texture, but with plenty of acidity backing it up, making it feel crisp, clean, and precise. Really an excellent price for a Chardonnay this classy.

Light smooth oak, nice fruit. Acidic food enhances the frutiness. Goes extremely well with lemon dressed avocado or yogurt dressing. Highly recommended

A medium-bodied entry fills the mouth with notes of pear, citrus, honey and nutmeg. Balanced acidity and lingering notes of Meyer lemon make this an excellent food wine.

Alexander Valley , Sonoma Valley , Russian River Valley , Dry Creek and Carneros are dynamic growing regions that offer a new set of variables with each vintage. With Chateau St. Jean's Sonoma County wines, we look to make the most of these variables, seeking the best expression of Chardonnay from a particular vintage. Classic winemaking techniques to include barrel fermentation and seven months of sur lie aging in small French and American oak barrels impart richness and complexity to the wine. Approximately 84% of the blend underwent malolactic fermentation. Inviting aromas of lemon, pear and jasmine along with a touch of toasty vanilla mingle on the nose of this classic Sonoma County Chardonnay. Refreshing and balanced, the wine has vibrant acidity with pleasing flavors of pear, pineapple and roasted almonds that lead to a clean finish.
