Another drop-dead gorgeous wine, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is beautiful. Sweet floral notes, licorice, red cherries and tobacco all flesh out in this layered Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2010 stands out for its sweet, silky tannins and hugely appealing personality. This is yet another highlight in a portfolio full of delicious wines. Many of these wines, especially at the entry-level, are made in large enough production to be relatively easy to find. Achieving high quality at this scale is a rare skill. Longtime winemaker Margo Van Staaveren certainly seems to have the magic touch.

Smoky with a bit of pickle barrel on the nose and lots of dried herbs with just a base note of red fruit. Pretty fruity on entry and with just a hint of RS adding emphasis to the sprightly red berry fruit. The tannins here are a touch hard just the fruit works well on the modest finish which shows nice refreshing acids and some strawberry tones that linger on the palate. This is round, juicy and a little rustic but kind of fun to drink. 86pts
2010 Chateau St. Jean Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County, CA. This is a delicious cab. Heavy on the dark fruit, cassis and cedar box. I love this deep colored liquid. The tannins are a bit unfinished but otherwise acceptable leaving me with a long satisfying cabernet smile. One further note, how the hell did Kenwood get mixed up with Chateau St. Jean.............Help Snooth.
This wine is heavy on the tongue with a flavor that lasts but seemed somewhat dry to me. A nice wine for the price and I'd recommend it to those who prefer a heavy wine without too much tannin. Not bitter but just not enough life for my tastes.

Kenwood Vineyard's Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon is made predominantly of fruit sourced from vineyards located in the Sonoma, Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys. Each vineyard lot is kept separate throughout fermentation and aging to preserve the unique flavors of the individual vineyards that create this consistent, award-winning wine. The growing season of 2005 had a bountiful crop and near-perfect ripening conditions that allowed the fruit to reach its optimum flavor and maturity. After fermenting the grapes in stainless steel tanks, the wine was aged in French and American oak barrels for 23 months. Before bottling, Merlot and Cabernet Franc were added to the final blend. The result is a rich, complex, and fruity wine that has flavor reminiscent of black current jam and sweet pipe tobacco. Enjoyable now, the wine in this bottle will continue to improve with age.
