Wine Description: Bright and vivid aromas of boysenberry, roasted coffee, vanilla and baking spices meet elegant layers of black cherry and plum flavors. Viticulture Notes: The North Coast appellation of California has long been known for its legendary cool climate counties of Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake, Each has unique microclimates and a vast array of soil types. These appellations are renowned for the specific varietals that thrive there. The grapes for this Merlot were sourced from the excellent Merlot producing areas of Sonoma County, Mendocino County and Lake County in roughly equal proportions. The warm coastal climate coupled with the multitude of soil types allows Merlot to develop full ripe flavors while retaining balanced acidity and soft tannins.. The growing season of vintage 2013 was extremely pleasant with fine temperatures and plenty of sunny days. Similar to 2012, with temperatures never too hot nor too cold, vintage 2013 was a long, moderate growing season which resulted in well-developed flavors, color and balance in the fruit, especially Merlot. Winemaking Notes: Once our winemaking and viticultural team determine the fruit is at full maturity, Winemaker Ed Killian applies traditional fermentation techniques tailored to the characteristics of each vineyard. Typically extracting the skins 10-14 days for full color and flavor intensity, and then gently pressing each lot into its own tank for malolactic fermentation. After carefully assessing the quality of the separate wines, the best lots are judiciously blended to allow marrying of the flavor profile, and then aged with French and American oak for 6 months before final blending. Titratable Acidity: 0.6g/100ml pH: 3.58 Alcohol Level: 13.9%
