Chateau Souverain Cabernet Sauvignon Wine 2016
Member Review by pboss:
Very dry cabernet. Blackberries shine through on the nose. Likewise, blackberry dominates the palate with a few earthy and cocoa undertones. Medium finish with balanced alcohol providing some lingering heat. Strong tannins and lack of complexity drive this down to 2.0-2.5 stars.

Souverain is what Sonoma Cab is supposed to deliver. Nice round and sweet tannin but enough structure to know your drinking "the king" (of grapes).
Nice texture. Opened up after an hour or two. Nice hints of cherry on the tongue.
Purchased 12/06 for $15. Has been cellared for 2.5 years. At first, strong bell pepper and cassis aromas. As the wine opens up, there is plum, cassis, and oak and the vegetal aromas fade. Lush, with a cinnamon-inflected finish. Pretty impressive for the price paid, with nice complexity and not over-the-top in style.
Very smooth! Black fruit, tannins & oak. Would be great with a steak!

With rich aromatics of roasted coffee, black and red fruit on the nose which lead into flavors of black cherry, black plum and blackberry on the palate. It has brooding yet structed tannins along with subtle layers of vanilla, bittersweet chocolate and baking spices. The wine is very well-balanced with a well-structured mouthfeel that adds to a long, toasty oak finish.

Nice Cabernet flavors in this dry, softly appealing wine. Satisfies with waves of blackberries and black currants, touched with oak.

An elegant style, showing tobacco leaf, dried berry and sage notes, with a touch of raspberry cola. Ends with drying, cedary tannins. Drink now through 2016.

An excellent value, the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley exhibits a deep ruby/purple color along with classic aromas of cedar and cassis. A success for the vintage, it possesses medium body, soft tannin, and excellent depth. Enjoy it over the next 5ndash;8 years.

The opaque purple-colored 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley reveals a ripe nose of licorice, lead pencil, black currants, and tobacco leaf. Nicely textured, with fine density, bigger, more forceful flavors than the 2000, and more tannic punch in the finish, it should last for 10ndash;15 years.

The Cabernet Sauvignon offerings merit attention from readers looking for ldquo;best buysrdquo; in high class Cabernet. The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley tastes similar to a Cabernet costing $20ndash;$30. This beauty offers a deep ruby/purple color, a spicy, blackberry, currant, tobacco, cedar, and toasty-scented nose, lush, low acid, ripe flavors, the silkiness that is a hallmark of the 1994 vinage, and a clean, ripe finish. It should drink well for 5ndash;7 years, perhaps longer.
