Chateau Souverain Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley Winemaker's Reserve 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

This Cabernet Sauvignon opens with classic aromas of blackberry, black cherry and plum. Notes of anise, vanilla and milk chocolate carry over to the palate and meld with the wild blackberry and cassis flavors for which Alexander Valley is known. Extended aging in superbly coopered new barrels has integrated the chewy tannins and layered nuances of cedar, espresso, and tobacco. This well-structured Cabernet has incredible fruit density and balance and will age well over the next 10 years, but has plenty of accessible ripeness to enjoy upon release.

Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 92Aged for more than two years in new oak, this 100% Cab bursts with smoky vanilla and char that currently dominate its underlying fruit. But its likely that time in the bottle will meld everything together. The powerful black currant, black cherry, carob and tobacco flavors, wrapped into rich, soft tannins, suggest holding at least through 2008, and the wine should develop well for a decade.Wine Tasting NotesDeep ruby with a purple edge, this reserve reflects the best of the vintage in Alexander Valley. A densely packed Cab which exhibits the typical black cherry, wild blackberry and cassis for which this appellation is known. The extended aging in superbly coopered new barrels has integrated the thick tannins and layered nuances of vanilla, espresso, baking spices and leather onto the already complex fruit aromas and flavors. This is a muscular Cabernet, typical of the vintage, which will age well over the next 10 years, but has plenty of accessible ripeness to appreciate upon release.
