Chateau Souverain Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
Score: N/A Tasting Notes: This classic Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon offers rich, dark fruit aromas that lead to flavors of black cherry, black plum, anise and chocolate. The high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon creates a wonderful density and concentration to this wine along with well-structured tannins. On the palate, hints of brown baking spice meld with the dark fruit and polished tannins. The finish is long with hints of sweet fruit. Web Site: Click Here

Toasty, spicy blackberry aromas lead to rustic cherry and mocha flavors, but roasted herb notes and firm, gritty tannins emerge on the finish. Drink now through 2009.
Supple, with a mix of ripe currant, plum, herb, green olive, cedar and exotic spice. Well-focused, with a pleasant sense of harmony and finesse, it caresses the palate, ending on a ripe, complex note. Best of three bottles. Drink now through 2010.
The opaque purple-colored 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley reveals a ripe nose of licorice, lead pencil, black currants, and tobacco leaf. Nicely textured, with fine density, bigger, more forceful flavors than the 2000, and more tannic punch in the finish, it should last for 10-15 years.
An extremely nice wine, rich and balanced, that approximates Cabs costing far more. The flavors of blackberries, cherries and chocolate have an earthy edge of dried herbs and crushed spices, enhanced with smoky oak. Easy to find with 35,400 cases produced.
A sleeper, the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon boasts wonderfully pure cassis fruit, less wood than its siblings, loads of concentration, and a long, heady finish with considerable purity, depth, and length. Drink this beauty during its first 15 years of life.
Souverain consistently produces a good, sometimes very good Cabernet at a decent price point, and their '05 is right up there with past vintages. Dry, balanced and rich in tannins, it has classic varietal notes of black currants, cedar and herbs. Should develop for the next four or five years.
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is another very good value. Ripe black currant, herb, and spice box aromas are followed by a medium-bodied, attractive, fruity Cabernet with good texture, depth, and richness, and no hard edges. It should drink nicely for 7-8 years.
