Chateau Souverain Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

Agree with most of the discription. Overall, I enjoyed the wine. Great for everyday drinking. A little too much oak for my taste, but otherwise it was well-balanced.Got it for much cheaper than the msrp, so it was a terrific buy.

Alexander Valley is one of Sonoma County's "best-kept secrets" for producing excellent Cabernet Sauvignon. Two key characteristics of the growing region nurture exceptional grape development. The Russian River, flowing through the heart of the valley, channels early evening breezes to cool the valley's warm afternoons and allow the grapes to retain balanced acidity. The gravelly soils of the terraces, benchlands and hillsides are a montage of alluvial materials from both sedimentary and volcanic sources that were deposited by the Russian River. This soil stresses read more...the vines late in their growing season, resulting in grapes of rich color and varietal character. Chateau Souverain's vineyards are located on the benchlands and terraces in the heart of the Alexander Valley and typify the best of region. Blend: 84% Cabernet Sauvignon,8% Merlot, 3% Petite Syrah, 3% Syrah, 2% Cabernet Franc Big, rich flavors of black cherry, black plum and boysenberry are the signature of this wine. The combination of French and American oak lends subtle layers of vanilla, bittersweet chocolate andbaking spices. This balanced wine offers a well-structured mouth-feel and supple tannins thatcontribute to a long toasty oak finish. This is a round, balanced and inviting Alexander ValleyCabernet Sauvignon.
