Château Smith Haut Lafitte Red Bordeaux Blend Pessac-Léognan 2005
3 Stars Decanter Online"Very dark. Opulent, rather exotically ripe nose. Very modern winemaking but with the freshness of Graves ingredients, making a happy whole... Definitely a success...16.5" Jancis Robinson 4/06"Dark ruby in color, with mineral, sweet tobacco and berry character. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a dried herb and fruit finish...." -WS 05/08

The descriptors above are right on in many ways. Inky maroon color with a nose filled with charcoal, incense, scorched earth and lots of black and blueberry. Big tannins, this is a young wine and needs more time or hours of decanting to properly enjoy. As it's a Graves, it's very earthy and super concentrated. Super dry finish and big tannin. In a handful of years, this wine should be spectacular! - Tasted at Marché Bacchus 12/12/09
Superb. A drinking wine, not a tasting wine. Elegant acidity follows creamy melon and blossom character. Good viscosity and layers of depth. The future of this wine will be honied and toffee. Quite different from the pungency, intensity and razor sharp acidity of Larkmead's Sauvignon Blanc that it was tasted against.

Very grapey, with black licorice and mineral character. Full-bodied, with hints of new wood and spices. Big and velvety. This is balanced and very silky, with harmonious yet chewy tannins. This is a different style from the 2003, but it's equally imp... Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2005 Smith-Haut-Lafitte 6000ml
Pale yellow. Pure aromas of grapefruit, lemon drop, pear and spicy, vanillin oak. Dense and sweet, with lovely floral lift and bright acids leavening the wine's creamy richness. This is wonderfully layered in the middle palate, and finishes with supe... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Bordeaux Blanc wine from Bordeaux in France. 2005 Smith-Haut-Lafitte Blanc 750ml
I know it sounds like a broken record, but this may be the best Smith-Haut-Lafitte ever made. A prodigious effort, the 2005 boasts an inky/blue/purple color, sweet aromas of graphite, white chocolate, espresso, and blue, red, and black fruits, extrao... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. RP: One cant say enough about the accomplishments the Cathiards have achieved at this property since 1990. Prior to their purchase of the property, appallingly diluted, vegetal, fruitless, charmless wines were produced, but they have turned Smith-Haut-Lafitte into a showcase Pessac-Leognan. The inky blue purple-tinged 2005's extraordinary nose reeks of charcoal, incense, scorched earth, abundant blackberry, blueberry, and cherry fruit, toast, and spice. Good acidity, huge but sweet tannin, and fabulous precision as well as definition characterize this full-bodied, super-concentrated effort. It should prove to be among the longest-lived wines yet made by the Cathiards. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030+.
