Château Siran Margaux Pre-Arrival 2015

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Fairly herbaceous, very Bordelaise, dried bell pepper, cigar box, sweet red currant fruit – rather rich on entry, blocky, a bit extracted, nice fruit, full tannin load, nice acid cut on the mid-palate, powerfully built with an assertively oaky finish, (87-88)

Fleshy, but slightly 'hot' and coming across as alcoholic - perhaps not unreasonably for an '03?

Tasted May 2008: This wine has an intense, deep colour with some remaining purple and as yet no signs of degradation. The nose is quite powerful and foursquare for a Margaux, and although lacking in flavour and poise, there is some finesse and a fine perfume of red berries (including cherry and strawberry). On the palate the wine is rather subdued and chunky, but with a lot of extract and grip. The finish is dry, tannic, and with signs of overextraction, hence somewhat out of balance. Still, quite an impressive wine, but not a textbook Margaux. Needs more time; drink from 2010 through 2016.

It was quite a number of years since I had this wine but it still lingers in my memory. I tried this wine before I really knew anything about wine, a good thing I didn't hold on to this one as it would be a very expensive vinegar by now. I remember storing the bottle on top of my book case, a nice high warm spot with plenty of light... anyway you get the picture. I waited for the first special occasion to try and remember it being smooth, lush and long lasting on the palate. I tried to find it again locally only to find that it had sold out.

Jetzt trinken! Sehr schöne, weiche Tannine, rund und ohne Ecken und Kanten. Hält sich erstaunlich gut!

Nice fleshy feel here, with succulent plum and blackberry fruit that stays pure through the black tea-infused finish. Fine mineral thread flitters through the finish as well.-J.M. Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2011 Siran 750ml

Really bright character, with dark berry, tar, light coffee and flowers on the nose and palate. Full and rich, yet balanced and complex. Best ever from here? James Suckling. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2010 Siran 1500ml

A blend of 42% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Petit Verdot, the Chateau Siran '10 seems to mark a change in style for this Margaux cru that tended to be overblown in recent years. This is far more composed on the nose with pepper black fruits... Neal Martins Wine Journal. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2010 Siran 1500ml
