Chateau Senejac Haut 005 2008
"Alfred Tesseron and his winemaking team from Pontet-Canet began overseeing this property with the 2008 vintage. The result is an obvious up-tick in quality. The 2008 Senejac exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as sweet, sexy aromas of red and black fruits and underbrush, a medium to full-bodied texture, ripe, gentle tannins, and a broad, expansive mouthfeel. This *sleeper of the vintage* should drink nicely for a decade or more." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
The story of this estate dates back to the 16th century but in 1999 it was bought by the late Lorraine Cordier whose family also own Chateau Talbot in Saint Julien. It consists of 150 hectares on sand and gravel soils of which 39 are under vine. Only red wines are made. In 2003 it was made a Cru Bourgeoise Superior. There are two second wines Artigues de Senejac and La Bergerie de Senejac
I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/32795 for £10.Chateau Senejac [www.chateau-senejac.com] is located near the village of La Pian-Medoc about 10 miles north of the city of Bordeaux and has a history going back centuries..It is a large estate with 39 hectares under vine that was bought by the Cordier family, who also own Chateau Talbot in St Julien, in 1999.The wine consists of 48% cabernet sauvignon,37% merlot,11% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot.,and spends 18 months in oak barrels.I started my bottle at the weekend with a meal of pork chops and I enjoyed it.My overiding impresion is of fresh blackcurrant and licorice style fruit. and mellow tanins. It is a lovely wine and I am not the only one who thinks so.The well known wine critic Robert Parker gave it 85 of his points,it won a silver medal at the 2011 Wine Challenge, and in 2003 the Chateau was made a Cru Bourgeois Superior.[although they have not mentioned this on the bottle].
