Château Sainte-Colombe Red Bordeaux Blend Côtes de Castillon 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

A great example of an appellation punching above its weight, from a truly greatvintage.2005 yielded grapes of perfect ripeness so there was wonderfulconsistency amongst the wines of the region across all price points. This wineexhibits juicy, lush, plummy characteristics, backed by fine-grained tannins, and has surprising complexity on the finish. Try it with grilled lamb or lightgame dishes. Medium in body but filled with flavor. Black cherry, spice box and currant. Lush in its flavors and carried along by soft tannins. Great andrsquo;05 drinker.

Moderately saturated medium red. Rather high-toned aromas of cherry, red plum, licorice, herbs and pepper. Bright acidity gives this wine good juicy cut and verve. A very fresh style of 2005, but seemingly a bit less dense in bottle than it was in barrel. Iandrsquo;d drink this sooner rather than later.

The property is planted with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc averaging 37 years of age. It is aged in one-use barrels for around 15 months. This is a well-made 'satellite' wine of St Emilion offering a fresh, clean, dry profile at a very fair price.

(tasted from cuvandeacute;e shortly before bottling) Medium-deep red. Black cherry, licorice and a minty nuance on the nose. Juicy, penetrating and youthful, with good density and power. The wineandrsquo;s substantial tannins will require at least a few years of patience.
