Château Saint-Sulpice Red Bordeaux Blend Bordeaux Contrôlée 2010

Member Review by Siobhan Mattison:

Pretty dull, but definitely drinkable. Nothing offensive, just not exciting.

Fruity and floral nose, but fades with breathing and under-achieves in the mouth.

My new favorite red Bordeaux in this price range. This is a performer.

Good. Earthy, silky, typical merlot profile black cherry and wood, the 30% cabernet makes the finish silky smooth and pleasant. Also can taste a lot of raspberries. Pretty good for the price at $12. Looking forward to having some later with a pot roast.

Really interesting wine, my first Bordeaux. Aromas of cedar, pencil shavings, and black plums. Flavors of cedar and pencil shavings again, and black cherries, with just a hint of chocolate. Nice and full-bodied but the tannins are silky and mellow. Slight sour aftertaste, very pleasant. We had some 70% dark chocolate with this and the pairing was surprisingly nice!

I had this at a business dinner at Fleming's Steakhouse. Petit filet mignon, crab stuffed shrimp with a glass. It was wonderful!

SummaryThe Chateau St Sulpice Bordeaux Rouge is a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. This wine is vinified as if it were a "classified growth:" complete de-stemming, eight-day fermentation in new temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and aging in vats for several months before bottling. This approach emphasizes the natural red fruit characters. The wine exhibits black cherry, spice and plum notes, with great depth and balance.NotesThe 2009 St Sulpice is dominated by a nose of ripe red fruit followed by a rich, smooth fruit and a soft finish. - Winery ** Only 12 in Stock **

Château St. Sulpice is a 100-acre estate situated in the heart of the Bordeaux region just south of St. Emilion and is planted with 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Spicy aroma and taste with soft ripe flavors of Merlot. Fragrant, well-balanced hints of plum and pepper make this wine truly enjoyable. Great for grilled meats, spicy sauces, or an afternoon barbecue. A typical yet approachable Bordeaux that is ready to drink.
