Winemaker's Notes:

WEATHER CONDITIONS After a mild and dry winter, the bud burst started mid March and it seemed that the year would be very precocious. Heavy rainfall in May and June disturbed the flowering period and caused some “coulure” and “millerandage”. The veraison (ripening ) started early and was distinctly uneven during August. Rainstorms impede the maturity to progress. Great weather, sunny and dry returned in September and stayed until the end of the month. PICKING Exceptional weather conditions during the whole picking time. Merlot : from September 17th to 19th Cabernet Franc : September 17th Cabernet Sauvignon : from September 24th to 28th - Then on September 30th VINIFICATION • Alcoholic fermentation Length of fermentation 5 to 8 days • â Cuvaisons â (alcoholic fermentation + maceration) Merlot : 18 to 23 days Cabernet Sauvignon : 18 to 24 days Few bleedings, on the young vines only. • Ageing : 60% new barrels BLENDING Château Rauzan-Ségla 1997 Ségla 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon : 59 % Cabernet Sauvignon : 61 % Merlot : 41 % Merlot : 34 % Press Wines : 1,5 % Cabernet Franc : 5 %
