Château Rauzan-Segla Margaux Ex-Negociant 2005
"This is a fabulous wine. A very giving wine with an amazing nose of currants, strawberries and flowers. This is a gorgeous wine. Full and powerful, with chewy and ripe tannins and a long, long finish. A serious, structured wine that still needs some time in the bottle. Don’t touch this for another five or six years. Pull the cork after 2016....97" JS 05/12

Powerful nose of cassis, blackberry, and other dark fruits with earth and oak notes as well. Medium-full body with acidity that is definitely there but not overstated. Supple berry and dark fruit flavors on the palate with just a hint of earthiness, a touch of oak, and a hint of vanilla as well. Good overall balance. Very finely textured tannins. The finish is lengthy and maintains a good balance, with maybe just a touch of alcohol. This wine still is a bit young and would probably benefit from more bottle aging. Still, this was a very enjoyable wine. Strong 4 out of 5.

One of the most beautiful Rauzan-Seglas made in decades, this blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest primarily Merlot and tiny dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot exhibits a gorgeous perfume of spring flowers, subtle mint, black cherries... Opaque black with purple. The nose is aristocratic, fine, pure and classy, so reserved yet easy to assess. The fruit quality is astounding as are the tannins, which are already beautifully integrated. Outstanding wine that reveals exceptional terroir and brilliant winemaking.

In 1661, Pierre des Mesures de Rauzan, an important winemerchant in Bordeaux, acquired the vineyard and gave his name to the estate. For two centuries generations of the Rauzan family succeeded in the running of the property and the Rauzan-Segla wines grew in reputation in a remarkable way. This Margaux, ranked as a Second Growth, was reborn in 1994 when Chanel became its owner. At that point, everything was set in motion to restore the reputation and rank of this gem of the Margaux appellation. Painstaking soil preparation, pruning, handpicking, sorting of grapesàare some of the precautionary measures vital for the quality of the wines produced. Rauzan-Segla wines offer a generous bouquet with clever elegance expressing the internationally recognised characteristics of the Margaux terroir
