Château Rauzan-Segla Margaux 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"This is a step ahead of the pack, thanks to its dense, sappy core of kirsch, blackberry and plum sauce that's offset by mouthwatering acidity and a long iron note on the finish. This has weight, but stays velvety and pure, with impressive length...94-97" WS 3/11 "Beautiful clarity of fruit with raspberries and currants on the nose. Roses and other flowers too. It's almost hard to describe, but there's a real purity. Full body, with fabulous balance and depth. It has everything in the right place. Best ever?...98" JamesSuckling.com 02/13

The history of Chateau Rauzan-Segla started in the reign of Louis XIV, when Pierre de Rauzan acquired the estate in 1 661. This wealthy man, a leading and well-reputed Bordeaux wine trader, also became the tax farmer of Chateau Margaux and Chateau Latour. Over the years, generations of the Rauzan family succeeded to the running of the estate, as they were to become Counsellors of the Bordeaux Parliament as well. Rauzan-Segla wines grew in reputation in a remarkable way and were some of the most highly rated in Bordeaux. They delighted many well-known figures, most famously Thomas Jefferson who came across this wine during his visit to the vineyards of Bordeaux, placing an order for several cases of it. He thus became a fervent admirer of Rauzan-Segla wines. Some decades later the 1855 classification ranked Chateau Rauzan-Segla as a Second Growth. Frederic Cruse, the estate's owner, had the current chateau built in 1 903. He approached the architect Louis Garros, who drew his inspiration from the original Perigord-style buildings in the construction of the chateau, as well as G. Le Breton to design the park and green spaces. Then time went by, and the Chateau gradually fell into a slumber... It wasn't until 1 994 that the complete renovation of the estate returned the Chateau and grounds to their original splendour. The patina of age, the climbing rose bushes, the hydrangeas, blond Bourg stone and verdant lawns - today everything radiates the tranquil calm of a residence filled with opulent charm. Read less

Sehr geschmeidig, fast "milchig". Viel Beeren, bereits abgerundete Tannine. Der wird GROSS!

60% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 3.5% petit verdot, and 1.5% cabernet franc. Aged for 18 months in approximately 50% new oak. Wow. This is a blockbuster of a wine, showing abundant dark red fruit on the nose with mocha, roasted coffee and vanilla.... Alex Lallos. Only 45% of the crop was used in the Grand Vin. Produced from an assemblage of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 37% Merlot 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot the wine reached 14% alcohol which is slightly higher than they achieved in 2009. Alluring scents of fresh flowers truffle cassis and jammy black plums combine with silk and velvet textures to produce an opulent powerful sensuous Margaux that coats your mouth with sensations of supple tannin and intense purity. When comparing this with the

This is a blockbuster of a wine showing abundant dark red fruit on the nose with mocha roasted coffee and vanilla. With more power and precision than most other of the Margaux wines in 2010 this offers serious structure and ageability. Everything is in total harmony here - just incredible. An amazing effort this is one of the top wines of the apppelation. It will be long lived and will evolve beautifully for three or more decades. Alex Lallos.

Flashy style of Margaux with alluring warm cocoa and black tea aromatics followed by cashmere-textured plum sauce steeped fig and blackberry confiture notes. The well-integrated structure makes this seem almost accessible now but the ample length and a smoldering tobacco note make a case for cellaring. Best from 2014 through 2030. -JM Wine Spectator.
