Chateau Puech-Haut Recantou 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

93-95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Languedoc Saint Drezery Recantou is 100% Syrah that’s still aging in new Burgundy barrels. This ripe, sexy, full-bodied beauty has tons of black and blue fruits, graphite, licorice and dried violets characteristics as well as no hard edges, ripe tannin and still terrific freshness. It will drink well through 2024+." 04/16

Many of the grapes are sourced from older vines, some 60-75 years old, resulting in very concentrated and structured flavors. The fruit for the wines was originally sold to other winemakers, then Puech-Haut began producing wine under its own label starting in 1996. The “Cuvée Prestige” is its most successful release, from Syrah and Grenache, aged in concrete tanks (the Syrah spends a small amount of time in oak to give it some punctuation). Others include the “Bosc Negre,” which is made of 100% Mourvedre and the all-Grenache “Quercus.”  Read less

A masculine and rich wine with notes of dark fruit, chocolate and spice with a mineral touch on the finish.
