This is a Gold Medal Wine Club Platinum Series selection. The 2005 Chateau Potelle VGS Zinfandel is yet another example of why VGS Zinfandel is held as a standard for California Zinfandels. Following a strong succession of 90 Plus pointed vintages since 2000, the 2005 Zinfandel added to the winery's award-winning reputation with an impressive 92 Points from Wine & Spirits. A wine that contributed to Cheateau Potelle earning American Winery of the Year by Wine & Spirits, this Zinfandel is a blend from three different vineyards and five different soil types, making an extraordinary combination of flavors that truly represents the site’s expressive rocky mountain landscape and microclimate. The 2005 Zinfandel is seductively aromatic with ripe raspberry, sweet spices, and notes of pepper before filling the mouth with refined fruit and spice characteristics. It has a lingering finish that melts seamlessly into fine layers of toasted oak, supported by lusciously soft tannins. Chateau Potelle calls the 2005 VGS Zinfandel ‘one of their best vintages.’ Pair with barbequed meats, pork chops, and pizza. Enjoy now until 2015.

It's a bit dense as far a Zins go. It's packed with forward dark berries on the nose, but kinda mellows in the mouth. A bit of surprising oak, with a deep finish. Leaves you with the feeling of a chewy separate course.

Wine Tasting NotesThis Zinfandel VGS simply has all the elements together. Already as a young wine it is dense, filling your mouth with fruity, spicy, interesting arrays of flavors, and has the refined taste that our Zin has become famous for. It is seductively aromatic with ripe raspberry, sweet spices and notes of pepper. It has a lingering finish that melts seamlessly into fine layers of toasted oak supported by a soft tannin structure.

Always among the most elegant and claret-like Zins, this mountain beauty seems to express the French attitude of Potelle's owners. Graceful and harmonious despite the power: the plum, blackberry and herb flavors have been crafted into a taut, ageable... Wine Enthusiast.
