Château Plaisance Premières Côtes de Bordeaux 2005

Member Review by Rodolphe Boulanger:

Med to dark garnet-purple color. Spice berry and vanilla nose. Black pepper too. Smooth, round red fruit currant and earth notes. Plum and anise. Good finish on fruit. A bit hot. Still young. Will be probably be an awesome value in 2-3 years.

Château Plaisance is located in the heart of the St. Emilion appellation. Château Plaisance is not a newcomer to this area: the Château was constructed in 1886. The chateau is of classic French architectural style of the region. The work in the vines is primary and the most important aspect of this wine estate. Plaisance vineyards are comprised of 19 hectares planted with three grape varieties: merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. The vines grow in unique soil of sand and gravel that allow for perfect drainage. Only by focusing on viticulture, the best possible wine can be attained. By combining the best of traditions of the old world with the implementation of new technology, the wine is created in a state-of-the art winery and a modern barrel-cellar. The harvest is traditional, done by picking the grapes by hand, followed by meticulous fruit selection. Once sorted, the grapes are placed in temperature regulated stainless steel tanks. In keeping with the Grand Cru qualification status, Château Plaisance then ages the wine in new oak barrels for 18 months. Artistic blending of the three grape varieties is one of the final steps. Two years after the harvest, the wine is bottled. The winemaking experience is long, arduous, and ultimately rewarding. Read less

Cherries, chocolate and mint on the nose. Medium bodied, with leather, licorice and a slight earthiness in the mouth. Blocky tannins on the finish, with cherry notes.

Deep ruby color in the glass with subdued aromas of forest floor black currant and cassis just managing to eke through on this young red. However entirely drinkable now with an abundance of dark fruits coating the palate along with loamy earth flavors and cedar spice. Densely packed scrumptious AC Bordeaux suitable for early to mid-term consumption but should also age well as the wine is balanced and finely structured with well-integrated tannins.

Good red-ruby. Very ripe aromas of plum, currant, mocha and tobacco, complemented by chocolate and leather nuances. Sweet, lush and pliant, with moderate depth but good grip to the flavors of current, tobacco and earth. Finishes with ripe, supple tannins and good lingering fruit. A forward and satisfying 2005 at a gentle price.

Chateau Plaisance, Bordeaux SuperieurA deep purple color, powerful and elegant wine with a rich nose, fruit aromas. Well-balanced, powerful yet refined on the palate with present but mellow woody tannins, fruit flavors. Made from 70 % Merlot, 20 % Cabernet Sauvignon,10 % Petit Verdot. The grapes are hand-harvested at full maturity. Temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats between 28 - 30 C. Deep, inky purple, this powerful, yet refined red is 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. Toast and cedar envelop the plush blueberry and black raspberry fruit notes. With a rich, enticing nose and a silky-smooth mouthfeel, the Château Plaisance maintains classic structure at a very reasonable price.
