Château Picque Caillou Red Bordeaux Blend Pessac-Léognan 2000

Member Review by Mark Angelillo:

Floral, deep black fruit and a hint of licorice on the nose. Austere and slightly bitter, with good balance and more red fruit than black on the palate. Very nice.

Balanced oak and dark, cooked fruit in this Pessac-Leognan...vegetal notes pervade the nostrils but lead to nice tart raspberry flecked by smoky oak.

Near prestigious Château Haut Brion, Château Picque Caillou's 20-hectare vineyard stands at the entrance to Bordeaux, birthplace of legendary appellation. Driven by Paulin and Isabelle Calvet, this gravel terroir has all the advantages for making a great wine data management, plot monitoring, vinification in harmony with the terroir and vintage, and rigourous selection. Thus is born a pedrigree wine, balanced and elegant, highly charasteristic of the values of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.

Ripe fruits with hints of tobacco and mineral, the 2000 Picque Caillou offers a wonderful expression of red Graves that is ready to drink but could certainly be kept for 3-5 years.
