Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Red Bordeaux Blend Pauillac 1982
This has been the most sumptuous, delicious, and profound 1982 to drink over the last 5-6 years. It reveals a classic Pauillac aromatic profile of sweet blackcurrant fruit intermingled with scents of herbs, cedar and toast. However, on the palate it performs more like a great Pomerol. Given its unctuous texture and lavish quantities of fruit, glycerin, and alcohol, this is a thick, supple, velvety-textured, gloriously decadent, and hedonistic Pichon-Lalande that should continue to drink well for another 10-12 years. If readers need just one wine with which to impress someone, close a deal, or just experience the pleasures of wine, make it the Pichon-Lalande 1982.

Wow...this was a special treat. Wonderful bouquet of dirt, leather and saddle. Typical Bordeaux nose. Velvety smooth, pefectly balanced with a nice lengthy finish. I am very glad to have one more in the cellar.
After years of selling wine and remaining non partisan to any one wine or country for that matter, I think I have found a wine that has moved me. Now, its fair to say that I've consumed over a hundred different 100pt wines and thousands of 90+ ranging in varietal and country of origin. There has been only one 100pt experience, the 1982 Pichon Lalande, Pauillac. In fairness, I've not had the 21 L'Eglise Clinet, 47 Lafleur or Cheval Blanc which Parker has suggested "I'd kill for these wines"..but, I have tasted my version of Nirvana. From the decanter the wine seemed to breathe life into the room...the flora and ripe ripe red fruits were detectable 6 feet away. Once swirled in the glass you couldn't pull away from it; no food has ever compared...its the best thing I've ever smelled. Once I tasted it I knew I didn't have to ever go to Brazil to meet one of those almost mythically gorgeous women..Pichon Lalande took her place. So ripe, luscious, palate attacking with a decadent level of fruit..the tannins perfectly smooth. I almost felt guilty drinking the wine it was so good. The finish seemed to go on for an hour...as a matter of fact, I can still taste the wine, it was that good.

A voluptuous red. Very dark ruby-garnet. Aromas of currant, meat and berries. Full-bodied and velvety, with lovely ripe berry and earth and a long, ripe finish of caressing texture. This has always been a great wine... Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1982 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 750ml
Tasted at least a half dozen times in 2002, I keep waiting for this wine to fall off. It has been prodigious from its early days, and in bottle continues to be one of the most satisfying wines of this great vintage, both intellectually and hedonistically. The color is still a dense, dark garnet/plum/purple. The nose offers spectacularly sweet crème de cassis intermixed with plums, cherries, vanilla, and smoke. The wine is full-bodied, opulently textured, very plush, with a viscous texture and extravagant quantities of fruit, glycerin, and alcohol. It has always been incredibly low in acidity, very decadent, and about as hedonistic as a Pichon-Lalande or any Bordeaux, for that matter can be. It has surprised me with its longevity and should still continue to show no amber at its rim nor any evidence of breaking up. However, I wouldnt push my luck, as this wine is already 20 years old. Last tasted, 4/03.
