Chateau Peyros Madiran 2004

A stunning wine from France's Southwest, and a match for expensive classed-growth Claret at five times the price. The Tradition is a blend of Tannat (60%) and Cabernet Franc (40%) grapes grown on silty clay soils with a high density of rolled pebbles. The Tannat supplies the dark fruit flavors and tannic structure while the Cabernet Franc brings spice and herb flavors while adding freshness to the wine. This wine underwent traditional vinification in order to obtain a colorful and very concentrated wine. Fermented and micro-oxygenated for 20 days then aged 14 to 16 months in oak (40% in French new oak and 60% in one year barrels). Unfined and unfiltered, decant before serving. Beautiful dark ruby color with garnet-red tints. Generous nose of fresh fruit with hints of plum, cocoa, and slightly toasted oak. Very soft on the palate, with fruit and vegetable flavors. Long finish with fine, round and well-matured tannins. This wine is perfect to drink with red meat, T-bone, strong flavored cheeses.
