Lots of bramble-berry, black coffee and smoke on the nose - seductive and inviting. Light, well integrated tannins are dominated by a decidedly blackberry - blackcurrant flavor. In other words, Cabernet Sauvignon predominates to generally good effect - assuaged judiciously by a major dollop of plummy, ripe Merlot. Drinking well now and should continue to do so for 5 more years. The last two vintages in particular seem to place this wine in the ranks of a lesser classified growth.

Dark, inky color, very aromatic of sweet spices. Cocoa, berries, briar, oak, very complex flavors and aromatics. Lots of soft fleshy tannins that give fullness without being bitter or drying. Great lingering flavor. Bought 1/2 a case.

The 2006 Gloria is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot with the balance split between Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It is maturing in 40% new wood. The color is saturated black cherry with the barest edge of purple. While closed, the nose cleary reveals a deep core of concentrated fruit. The palate is again closed at first, then indicates the density backed by very well integrated tannins. This is a very impressive Gloria and an outstanding value. Robert Parker 90. Tasted from barrel April '07.

Gloria has been producing terrific wines over recent vintages. The 2006 is a slightly more structured effort than the fleshy 2005, but it offers a deep ruby/purple color as well as loads of black cher... Robert Parker. Offers blackberry and black licorice on the nose turning to light jam. Full-bodied with lovely silky tannins and a long caressing finish. Beautiful and refined. Best after 2012. -JS Wine Spectator.

Good full ruby. Riper aromas of currant and lead pencil. Sappy vinous and penetrating with good cut to the juicy currant and licorice flavors. There s actually as much tannin in the 2007 says technical director di Costanzo but this wine comes across as more powerful if not a bit more rustic. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

As I wrote last year this sensational sleeper of the vintage is not far off the pace of Gloria s brilliant 2005. Sweet cedary cigar box roasted herb and black currant fruit aromas are followed by a lush full-bodied textured concentrated wine. A steal in today s marketplace this is a gorgeous St.-Julien to enjoy now and over the next 15+ years. Good value. Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
