What to Expect

Rhone Blends are generally based on Grenache, though some blends may be predominantly Syrah or Mourvedre. The fact that these wines are blends gives the winemakers unusual flexibility in creating a finished wine. In the Southern Rhone Valley of France the styles can range from light, fruity, soft Cotes du Rhone to big, bold, age worthy Chateaunuef-du-pape. This blend is also very popular in Australia and the United States where they frequently go by the Moniker GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre) and exhibit the rich, bold fruit that both countries are famous for.

WA 90pts. - According to the Wine Advocate: The unfined/unfiltered 2006 Les Terrasses Rouge, a custom cuvee made for American importer Eric Solomon, is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. Its deep ruby/purple hue is accompanied by a lovely bouquet of black currants, black cherries, licorice, smoke, roasted herbs, and melted licorice. Deep and full-bodied with velvety tannins, good acidity, and a long finish, this is a heck-of-a wine to drink over the next 4-5 years. This is the benchmark estate for fabulous wine in the Cotes du Ventoux. Even with the weak American dollar, it can still be purchased for a song.

Dark, deep ruby color. Nose is very inviting with spice cookies, fig, lead pencil, beef broth with a hint of skunk. Smooth, medium body. Blackberry fruit, spice and slightly herby. Nice amount of acidity that carries this win perfectly with or without food. Subtle yet present tannin mostly noticeable with the medium length finish. A great buy for the price.

Just a great, everyday wine. Wonderful value. Lots of ripe fruit. Definite crowd pleaser. Inexpensive enough to serve at a get-together.
