"The 2000 Cuvee Reservee...exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color as well as a fabulous nose of black fruits intermixed with roasted meats, licorice, pepper, and a touch of garrigue. It is super-charged with extract, has high levels of glycerin, extremely full body, sweet tannin, and a long finish of nearly 40 seconds. It may surpass the 1998, turning out to be the greatest Cuvee Reservee since 1990...93-96"WA12/01

The story behind the Domaine de Pegau begins in the late 17th century with our ancestors farming a few small fields of vines bordered with olive and cherry trees. The revenue from the cherries sold in the local provençal markets covered the costs of working the vineyards. The olives and their golden oil were for family consumption, whilst the grapes went into producing the already famous red wine of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The grape picking was family work which took place in an ambience of light-heartedness and fun but with a respect for quality and even then a vigerous selection of the best grapes. At the end of the row the horse waited patiently for the moment when he felt the wooden paniers gorged with grapes weighing down his cart. Once at the winery the grapes were liahtlv Dressed to break the skins - foulé, (the word means literally press by stepping on), the whole bunches were put in trie vats and then the wine-making took place over a period of 15 days. Times have changed, but this traditional style of wine-making is continued today at the Domaine de Pegau. Read less

Immediately a lovely meaty nose with bramble and baking spice notes greets the nose. Fairly complex with emerging notes of candy licorice, chalky earth, lavender, mint, and the tell-tale strawberry fruit of Grenache. Medium full in the mouth with a touch of obvious alcohol, roast herby and dry on the midpalate with good acidity and soft tannins but a faded core or gently roast fruit, though the glycerin adds some smoothness. More obvious on the finish with a kirchy element and solid length evolving into a bit of licorice tinged raspberry liquor/cherry candy.. The nose promises more than the palate delivers and this would be better with the proper food but is still a solid bottle of Pegau. 89pts

Deep, crushed fruit nose of dark red berries, spice and light oak. The palate is silky smooth, light but still manages to fill the mouth with a healthy amount of bright red fruits. The tannins on the finish are round, firm, balanced. This is simply delicious.

Strong alcohol but very pleasant nose. Mellow and round flavor that numbs the mouth. Long and elegant silky finish. Extremely enjoyable. Tastes expensive.

Rich and earthy, sort of a dark soil taste, blackberries and currants compliment mild sugars and slight acidity. Very low tannins betray a delicate wine, and I want that it be bolder. I still very much appreciate this kind of wine.

Very delicious acidity. Bordering on a pretty nose, but just rough and smoky enough to keep things interesting. Some candy and mint on the nose. I thought it got progressively stinkier as it opened up. Enjoyable to drink.

The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee may be one of the few 2000s that is better than its 1998 counterpart. A deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by sweet aromas of creme de cassis, kirsch liqueur, cedar, licorice, and pepper. It smells like an open-air Provencal market. Sweet, fat, opulent, and voluptuous, with fabulous fruit concentration, sweet tannin, and a long, 45+ second finish, this powerful, deep, seamless 2000 is impeccably well-balanced. A tour de force in traditional Chateauneuf du Pape, it is accessible now, but should age easily for 15-20 years.

Beautiful traditional Châteauneuf, all built around mineral, smoke, leather and plum aromas. Good balance in this medium- to full-bodied red thanks to the clean, fresh fruit.
