Château Pavie Macquin Rosé Blend Bordeaux Rosé Rosé 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Is the 2008 Pavie superior to the 2005 and 2000? While that is impossible toknow at this stage of its development, it will certainly be one of the threegreatest Pavies made..Sweet creme de cassis, black cherry, licorice, and smokybarbecue characteristics combine with a liqueur of minerality that resonatesfrom this terroir that is considered to be among the top dozen or so vineyardsites in Bordeaux. This remarkable offering, from a person who has, thankfully, ignored the petty jealousy and unfair criticism of his administration, isanother St.-Emilion for your children's children... Terroirs are the expression of a place, a witness to history. Infinitely rich and varied, their complexity is expressed through their biological, geological, topographical and climatic characteristics. Precious and fragile, they are the greatest thing that nature offers us and they cannot be imitated. Their quality is an irreplaceable ingredient in the production of great wines. To produce great wines in the image of a terroir: the idea is simple but the practice requires patience and humility. Pavie Macquin, this eponymous chateau, finds the key to its history in one man, Albert Macquin (1852-1911). It is to him that Saint Emilion owes the idea of grafting vines onto rootstocks, thereby saving the region from ruin by phylloxera. Henri Enjalbert wrote, “During more than thirty years, Albert Macquin was the master of the transformation of the vineyards of Saint Emilion”. The current owners of the chateau are his grandchildren: Benoit and Bruno Corre, Marie-Jacques Charpentier and their children. They have shown, like their ancestor, a great attachment to this admirable terroir. Read less

Acquired by Chantal and Gérard Perse in March 1998, Château Pavie has one of the finest terroirs and largest v ineyards of al l the Premiers Grands Crus Classés in Saint Emilion. The cellar features twenty temperature- controlled vats, which means that grapes from each separate plot can be separately fermented in order to fine tune the final blend. The ageing cellar is the most audacious and modern in all Bordeaux. Château Pavie is a wine with a marvellous structure and enormous elegance. It is produced from very low yields, 30 hectolitres per hectare, perfectly adapted to the terroir

This is lavishly oaked, with dark espresso, mocha and bittersweet cocoa notes proudly leading the way, while the core of fig sauce, melted licorice snap and blackberry confiture waits in the wings.
