Château Pape Clément Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend Pessac-Léognan Blanc 2004
Tasting Notes :This brilliant blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon and 46% Merlot (which was harvested very late) reveals complex aromas of lead pencil shavings, burning embers, black currants, cherries, and blackberries as well as a subtle smoky charcoal component. Medium to full-bodied and spicy with sweet tannin and an opulent, fleshy personality, it is a terrific effort from this great Pessac-Leognan vineyard. Consume it now and over the next 15+ years.

This wine is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon/ Merlot and using a technique known as “saignee”. Bleeding vats of red wine at an early stage, when the juice has just begun to color, that pink juice is removed can be fermented separately to produce rose. Mature pink. Vanilla, toast, maltose & honey notes. Minerality with strawberry hints. Silky texture & well balanced. Medium bodied. Drink now.

The name of the chateau come from Pope Clément V, a French-born clergyman who took the papal office in the early 14th century, and thus the Pape-Clément property has one of the longest and best documented histories of all Bordeaux chateaux.in the mid-20th century, the owners engaged the services of famed oenologist Emilie Peyaud. Now accounts for 32.5 ha of the Pessac-Léognan vignoble. Limestone base over Gravel soils. Merlot is planted on clay. Each parcel is fermented separately in oak of various sizes, Quite modern winemaking, but guards aromatics and texture typical of Pessac.
