Chateau Musar Vintage Duo Gift Set 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

2 of Lebanon's iconic wines, packaged in our striking wooden presentation box with straw filling. Without doubt, Chateau Musar is Lebanon’s top wine estate. Established by Gaston Hochar in the 1930s, Chateau Musar has been praised the world over, and its wines compared to the likes of fine Bordeaux and Burgundy for their finesse and ability to age. Chateau Musar Red 2009 - Musar's top wine is a blend in approximately equal parts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan. Aged one year in French Nevers oak barrels, it can be cellared for 20 years or more. Deep blood red in colour, with a smoky, spicy, nose of black fruits, toasted bread, dark chocolate and cigar box. The palate is well structured; full of black and red fruits such as cherries, blackcurrants and prunes with a hint of dark chocolate, tea leaves and a long finish with velvety tannins. Chateau Musar Red 2003 - "A ripe, sexy Musar". The nose is aromatic, fragrant, warm and mellow. On the palate it is brimming with soft berry summer fruits, such as cherries, strawberries and redcurrants, and velvety soft tannins. Decant and allow to breathe for several hours, and serve with roasted or grilled meat (especially lamb), casseroles, game and mature cheeses. "...this is a ripe, sexy Musar. It retains its elegant mid-palate as well as lovely fruit and fine balance. There is a slightly sweet tinge to the finish, perhaps a touch of a high-toned demeanor. The lush texture and surprising richness make this a rather luscious wine by Musar standards" 91 points - Mark Squires, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Created in 1930 in the cellar of an old 17th century castle, Château Musar is as much the work of a family as the living testimony of all the civilisations that have tread its soil. After a long stay in France, Gaston Hochar returned to Lebanon and created Château Musar in the cellars of the old 'Mzar' castle in Ghazir, overlooking the Mediterranean sea. What began as a hobby soon became a passion; a passion inspired by an initial encounter with renowned viticulturist Ronald Barton while he was stationed in Lebanon during the Second World War. The family's love for wine grew and in 1959, after completing his oenology diploma in Bordeaux, the eldest son, Serge, entered the business. Some call him the magician, the man behind this extraordinary wine. His response is that he only seeks is to translate what nature intended. Serge's younger brother Ronald, named after the late Barton, took over Château Musar's marketing and finance departments in 1962. Read less
