Château Mouton Rothschild Red Bordeaux Blend Bordeaux Contrôlée Aile d'Argent 1999

Member Review by wino:

Deep Red. The nose was distinctly brettanomyces all but drowning the dark berry aroma. The nose did not develop at all over a 3 hour period. On the palate the wine was simple and exhibited little secondary character - perhaps at best some cedar. Tannins were dusty and generally what you expect of a wine of this age. This wine was a very big disapointment. (Served blind with 5 winemakers, all in agreement).

Château Mouton-rothschild:
Since 1933, Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, located at Pauillac in the Médoc, has been motivated by a constant ambition: to make the world's finest wines, each in its own category, whether the châteaux wines for which it is responsible – the renowned Château Mouton Rothschild, a First Growth, and its distinguished lieutenants, Château Clerc Milon and Château d'Armailhac – or branded wines, like the famous Mouton Cadet.

The beautiful 1999 Mouton Rothschild may be a modern day clone of their 1962 or 1985. Its saturated ruby/purple color is followed by sumptuous aromas of cedar wood, creme de cassis, wood smoke, coffee, and dried herbs. The wine is forward, lush, and ... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Full medium ruby. Currant, meat, mocha and grilled nuts on the nose. Lush, sweet and smooth, with just enough vinosity to maintain its balance. A vin de plaisir whose lovely fruit and sweet, harmonious tannins make it very easy to taste today (the ch... Stephen Tanzers IWC. Delivers sweet tobacco and plum aromas, with a lovely richness. Full-bodied, featuring lots of cedar, tobacco, chocolate and berry character. Long and silky in the palate. There is no sense in waiting; this is so delicious now.-89/99 Bordeaux blind... Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1999 Mouton-Rothschild 1500ml
