Chateau Moulinet Pomerol 2005

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £26 from the www.cellartrade.co.uk website. The Pomerol appellation was created in 1936 although winemaking here goes back to at least medieval times for red wines from the commune of that name near the town of Libourne on the right bank in the Bordeaux region. The commune is only about 3 square miles and has only 800 hectares under vine so it is one of the smaller Bordeaux appellations.Chateau Moulinet, now owned by the Mouix family,is a well established producer here. The wine is a blend of 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc and was aged in oak barrels.I started my bottle last night with my supper of roast lamb. There is some blackcurrant, blackbery and plum style fruit but the tannins were a little more astringent than I expected for a bottle over 10 years old and they did not soften or mellow on the second day. However it went well with the lamb

Château Moulinet:
The domaine has a history going back to the 12th century but has been owned by the Mouiex family, who own other Bordeaux properties and a negociant house, since 1971.It is located in the northern part of the Pomerol appellation and consists of 22 hectares,18 under vine,in a single plot..There is a second wine, made from the younger vines, called 'Clos Sainte Anne'
