Chateau Moulin Haut Villars Fronsac 1995

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £15 from a merchant in Sussex who had got it from a house clearance. It was in perfect and unmarked condition for a 20 year old bottle with the level high in the neck so it had clearly been well cellared.Fronsac is an AOC created in 1936 for red and rose wines from seven communes around the village of that name west of the town of Libourne and north of the Dordogne river.Canon-Fronsac is a sub-appellation within Fronsac created in 1964.Chateau Moulin Haut Villars is the second wine of Chateau Villars,a well established family concern. It is a typical right bank claret blend of 70% merlot and the rest the two cabernets. I started the bottle at the weekend with my roast lamb and I did enjoy it.There was plenty of a blackcurrant and plum style fruit there and the tannins were soft but well structured. I was impressed. I thought it an absolutely superb claret and was surprised to discover it was a second wine made from the younger vines
