Tasting of 1-4-2010... Showed beautifully this time around. Lots of spice in the pruney/curranty/berry aromas that carry through in the flavors. Has a much more robust feel than the bottle tasted 3 years ago, yet is completely ready to drink. Rating: 91. Tasting of 12-26-2006.... Tasty and well-balanced, though I suspect it's a bit past its prime. Aromas and flavors dominated by cedar, spice, and fragrant herbs, with dark currant fruit barely perceptible in the earthy background. Somewhat dusty on the finish. Excellent wine, still delicous, but not the religious experience one always hopes for in these old Bordeaux's.

An outstanding Montrose, the 1989 is one of the vintage's stars. It possesses an opaque dark ruby/purple color, a sweet nose of minerals, black fruits, cedar, and wood, dense, medium to full-bodied, highly extracted flavors, low acidity, and moderate tannin in the long finish. While it appears to be closing down far more quickly than the legendary 1990, it has layers of sweet fruit as well as an elevated level of glycerin. Give it 5-7 years of cellaring, and drink it over the subsequent 2-3 decades. Last tasted 3/97

This is the most over looked Chateau sometimes with some of the best wines. I know that the standard 'funk' that comes along with St. Estephe may keep some away, but, mature Montrose is something extraordinary. This wine has so much soul and delivers on such a grand scale it's tough to pass up. This wine is youngish for the claret fan who wants their wine soft and intergrated...it's sort of living in the space between old and new world palates. Rather fruit forward, but, more blackfruits, leather, coffee, tinder type elements are heavily displayed in the nose. There's also a rather infectious relflection of the soil that I can't get away from...it's also suprisingly soft which caught me off guard.

This is phenomenal and I continue to believe that it is superior to the 1990. Fabulous aromas of roasted fruit, blackberry, tobacco, chocolate and toasted oak. Full and velvety and very, very fresh. Powerful and fabulously structured. This will age f... Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1989 Montrose 750ml

Intense aromas of crushed blackberry and mineral turn to dried flowers and dried fruits, staying fresh on the nose. Full-bodied, offering big, round tannins and loads of ripe, seductive fruit. This is decadent and wild, turning nutty and fruity. A be... Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1989 Montrose 1500ml
