Chateau Moncontour Vouvray Demi-Sec 2011
Made from 100% Chenin Blanc, the Vouvray Demi-Sec is made from the 'Aubuis' soils, which are primarily clay soils. The pneumatic presses in the ultra-modern winery do a slow and soft pressing of the grapes before fermentation at 65F in temperature- controlled stainless tanks. The cool fermentation maintains the volatile components of this delicate grape. The color of the wine is fine yellow with a delicate green hue when young, with a floraland intensely aromatic nose typical of excellent Chenin Blanc. The full fruit flavors of green apple evolve to quince and pear on the palate and a finish that shows an excellent balance between acidity, sweetness, and alcohol.The Demi-Sec version retains about 2-2.5% residual sugar.
This is one of the older and more prestigious Loire wine estates. The 15th century renaissance chateau overlooks the Loire river near the village of Rochecorbon just east of Tours and the estate consists of 130 hectares spread over a number of parcels in the Vouvray area.They produce a selection of white,rose and sparkling wines.It is owned by the Feray family who also own other Loire wine estates.
