Chateau Moncontour 'La Belle Angerie' Vouvray Demi-Sec 2010

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from a shop in Chinon when I went there back in May.Vouvray is an AOC created in 1936 at the eastern end of the Loire valley not far from Tours and the grape variety is Chenin blanc, known locally as 'pineau' although small proportions of a grape called arbois are allowed but raely used. There are four types of Vouvray;sec,demi-sec,moelleux and doux which roughly translates as dry, medium ,sweet and even sweeter. Vouvray can also be sparkling or still. My bottle is a still bottle of the demi-sec and is from Chateau Moncontour, a large estate overlooking the Loire near Rochecorbon just east of Tours and owned by the Feray family. 'La Belle Angerie is the name of a vineyard close to the chateau. I started my bottle last night with my supper of pork pie salad and I did enjoy it. There is a lot of a pineapple or grapefruit style fruit there and as the words 'demi-sec' suggest it is neither sweet nor dry but in between. There is certainly plenty of flavour and it is easy drinking and went well with the pork pie.

Château Moncontour:
This is one of the older and more prestigious Loire wine estates. The 15th century renaissance  chateau overlooks the Loire river near the village of Rochecorbon just east of Tours and the estate consists of 130 hectares spread over a number of parcels in the Vouvray area. They produce a selection of white, rose and sparkling wines. It is owned by the Feray family who also own other Loire wine estates.
