Château Minuty Côtes de Provence Prestige Cru Classé 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

A wine of a pale rosé color with shadings of a rose petal tone joined by glints of orange and a fade tending toward a silvery hue. The wine is bright luminous, limpid and displays good concentration. The nose reveals purity and finesse and is initially rather restrained but quickly evolves with notes of tart red fruit such as red currants and raspberries. With aeration the wine takes on a riper character with notes of strawberry jam or raspberry jelly. A wine that also reveals floral aromas of roses and freesia. On the palate the wine reveals a rather refined attack with flavors of jammy red fruit. The acidity is evident and lends a thirst-quenching aspect to the whole. A lively and tasty wine that is enjoyable for its purity and finesse on the palate.

In 1955, the rosé, for which the estate is known, propelled it to be included in the 23 Cru Classé des Côtes de Provence. Farnet’s son, Etienne Matton, became president of the winery around that time, and sought to restrict grape yields and place emphasis on quality control. His sons Jean-Etienne and François-Matton now oversee the winery.  Though not certified organic, the wine is produced without the use of additional chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers. The estate is best known for its high quality rosés, but they also produce dry red and white wines.  Read less

Soils are composed of schistous mica, and winemaking facilities are modern (stainless steel, pneumatic presses, new and old oak, etc.). The wines are blends, with an emphasis placed on complexity and fruit above oak.

Available on the best French tables, this rosé is one of the finest wines of the Cotes de Provence appellation. With its magnificent location in the center of the Saint-Tropez peninsula, the Minuty Château was acquired by the Matton-Farnet family in 1936. This vineyard gained "Cru Classé" status in 1955 and has remained one of Provence's flagship estates ever since. Its 65 hectares are traditionally cultivated (no herbicides, no pesticides) to allow the full expression of traditional Provence varieties in the terroir of this exceptionally sunny region. This cuvee consists of 50% Grenache, 25% Tibouren and 25% Cinsault. Truly the taste of summer, this light, refreshing and versatile wine pairs well with light fare, from pastas, cheeses, grilled seafood, poultry and pork as well as seasonal vegetable dishes.
