Château Meyney Red Bordeaux Blend St. Estèphe 1996

Winemaker's Notes:

A Mirage of velvety fruit characters with black cherry and blackberry compote on a bed of vanilla and almonds. A well textured and balanced wine, the palate is silky smooth with a lingering chocolate filled finish.

Slightly disappointing for Meyney, but still a pretty wine. Aromas of roses and berries follow through onto a medium-bodied palate. Tannins are medium to light, finish is short. Drink now.

Though not as rich as the 1989, the 1990 is still a fine effort from this perennial overachiever. It offers deep ruby/purple color, a fine nose of black fruits, herbs, and oak, ripe, generous, tannin-dominated flavors, good concentration, and a moderately long, tough finish. Anticipated maturity: 1996-2010.

Layers of plum, cedar, berry and currant flavors make this complex and elegant, with supple tannins and pretty anise flavors on the aftertaste. Well balanced and tempting now, but can stand cellaring from 1994 to '99.

One of the oldest estates in Bordeaux. A big wine with good fruit and excellent aging potential.

Rich aromas of spices, berries, meat and earth. Medium-bodied, with velvety tannins and a fruity aftertaste. Slightly hollow midpalate. Best after 2000.
